A movie theater was evacuated Sunday afternoon when patrons and employees reported having breathing problems from something in the air.

South Metro Fire Rescue responded about 5:30 p.m. to the United Artists Meadows 12 and determined there was something in the air that was causing respiratory problems and eye irritation. Initially they suspected it might be pepper spray in the air, fire department spokeswoman Mandy Reed said.

A hazardous materials crew responded and swept the theater twice but could not determine what the substance was, she said.

Two employees were transported to Skyridge Hospital with breathing problems as a precaution, Reed said. No information was available on their conditions.
