LONE TREE — A movie theater was evacuated Sunday afternoon when patrons and employees reported having breathing problems from something in the air.

South Metro Fire Rescue responded about 5:30 p.m. to the United Artists Meadows 12 and determined there was something in the air causing respiratory problems and eye irritation. Initially, they suspected it might be pepper spray, fire department spokeswoman Mandy Reed said.

A hazardous-materials crew responded and swept the theater twice but could not determine what the substance was, she said.

Two employees were transported to Sky Ridge Medical Center with breathing problems as a precaution, Reed said. No information was available on their conditions.
