GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A fire that destroyed the building of KREX-TV may have been started by a defective space heater, investigators said.
The destruction caused by the fire, estimated to have caused about $6 million in damage, could keep firefighters from knowing exactly how and where the fire started Jan. 20.
Investigators believe the blaze was an accident. No one was hurt.
“We were able to determine the greatest amount of heat was centered around the space heater in the early stages of the fire, but the actual cause will remain undetermined with the greatest possibility being a defective space heater,” said Sandy Sandoval, a fire investigator for Fire Guy Forensics LLC.
The building housed operations of KREX and KFQX-TV.
