Baur’s is back!
The beloved restaurant, bakery and candy shop opened by German immigrant Otto Baur in 1872 has returned as Baur’s Ristorante, hosting a grand opening fundraiser today at 5:30 p.m., with appearances by historical figures Robert W. Speer (Denver City Auditor Dennis Gallagher); madame Mattie Silks (Charla Stilling), who treated her Market Street girls there; Emily Griffith (Debra Faulkner), who trained hundreds of Baur’s cooks, waiters, bakers and confectioners; and Otto P. Baur himself (Tom Noel). Under the glittering Baur’s sign, the new restaurant has the original tile floors from the Baur’s soda shop, as well as an original chandelier and exposed ceilings. The $50 ticket will raise funds for The Denver Public Library Friends Foundation as a way to honor the library’s role in keeping Denver history alive. Baur’s Ristorante, 1512 Curtis St., 303-534-4842

Finally, H&H Bagels have made it to northern Colorado. This new takeout place in Fort Collins’ Northern Hotel offers the New York bagels and bialys, along with plain and seasoned cream cheeses. The rest is made there: Try the curried chicken salad full of plump golden raisins, the new potato salad with bacon and cream cheese, and the rotisserie meats. 172 N. College Ave., Fort Collins, 970-407-0010. Kristen Browning-Blas
