Englewood police today thwarted an alleged bank robber when they stopped the cab he was riding in.

The FBI said in a release that a man entered Liberty Savings Bank at 9131 S. Broadway in Highlands Ranch at about 12:30 this afternoon.

The robber told bank employees that he had a weapon and demanded cash. Authorities did not reveal how much, if any, cash the man took.

They say the robbery suspect left the bank and that witnesses saw him get into a cab, which took off.

Douglas County sheriff’s deputies rushed to the bank and put out a description of the cab.

Englewood police saw it near Broadway and Hampden and pulled it over, the release said.

The FBI determined the passenger was indeed the bank robber, and he was arrested.

The FBI identified the man as Charles James Ulrich, 49, and said he would be charged in federal district court.
