Colorado will hold its presidential caucuses Tuesday. Between now and then, we will introduce you to a few of the people who might participate in the process.
NAME: Jen Stone-Gerardy
AGE: 22
OCCUPATION: Massage therapist
HOMETOWN: Boulder
POLITICAL AFFILIATION: Democrat
POLITICAL BACKGROUND: Stone-Gerardy said she has been voting since she was legally able. The 22-year-old said she participated in her first primary in 2004 in Utah before moving to Boulder for one year as a political science major at the University of Colorado. She hasn’t been actively involved in any candidate’s campaign, she said, but she will hotly debate politics with anyone.
ON HER MIND: This election cycle seems like it is the Democrats’ for the taking, Stone-Gerardy said, but she has seen the party fail to capitalize on Republican unpopularity before. She said she sees the pros and cons of the top-tier Democrats — Sen. Hillary Clinton, Sen. Barack Obama and former Sen. John Edwards — and isn’t completely sold on any one candidate. She said she does not want any of the three to divide the party and independent voters to the point that the party’s nominee would not be able to mount a viable campaign in the general election.
RATE YOUR POLITICAL TEMPERATURE: Red hot
FINISH THIS SENTENCE: One thing I would change about presidential politics is . . . “corporatization because it is so expensive to run a campaign. You cannot possibly be a presidential candidate without being a slave of big money.”
