Officials say a 19-year-old man tried to run an officer down before leading police on car chase that ended with the suspect’s capture.

Daniel Robert Sanchez, driving a Mitsubishi Galant, was pulled over at about 10 p.m. Monday at E. 69th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard for making an illegal turn, Commerce City police said in press release.

As an officer approached the Galant, Sanchez threw it in reverse and tried to run the officer over, police said.

Members of the Commerce City police, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol chased Sanchez for several minutes on I-76 and Colorado Highway 85 ending at E. 62nd Avenue and Parkway Drive, police said.

The driver, Sanchez, fled on foot and was found hiding in a camper in the 5300 block of E. 62nd Avenue, police said.

Sanchez was taken to the Adams County Jail on five outstanding warrants including attempted assault, criminal trespass and vehicular eluding, police said.
