A new couple is calling the Denver Zoo home.
He-Ping and Sophia are red pandas, and they live at a new outdoor habitat at the zoo.
He-Ping is 9 years old and came to Denver from the Milwaukee Zoo. Sophia is 5 and comes from Mill Mountain Zoo in Virginia.
The two linked up in Denver as part of a species-survival plan, and zoo officials hope they’ll start a family here.
Red pandas are an endangered species, and fewer than 2,500 are thought to exist in the mountains of southeastern Asia. They eat bamboo shoots and have thick fur coats.
Denver Zoo visitors can tell the two red pandas apart because He-Ping has a whiter face and bushier tail than Sophia.
