ECKERT, Colo.—The young victim of a house fire in Eckert is being identified as a 2 1/2-year-old boy.
The Montrose Daily Press reports Stoney Bridgeo died in the blaze that broke out at his home Wednesday.
Fire crews arrived shortly after noon and learned the boy was still inside, but they couldn’t gain entry to the house because of extreme heat.
Firefighters located the boy after the fire was out.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but Delta County Undersheriff Mark Taylor says authorities have no reason to believe the fire was anything other than “a tragic accident.”
Eckert is about 35 miles southeast of Grand Junction, or 9 miles northeast of the city of Delta.
