GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Grand Junction police say a Whitewater teenager has been found in possession of detonating cord — plus other components that could be used to make up an explosive device.

Authorities say they learned Tuesday night that a bus driver earlier heard a 16-year-old Grand Junction High School student falsely claim to have a bomb on the vehicle.

Police later went to the student’s home to meet with the student and a parent.

Sergeant Gary Marak says police found the items there.

The student is in the custody of the state Division of Youth Corrections.

School District 51 spokesman Jeff Kirtland says school officials are conducting an investigation to determine what, if any, disciplinary action the teen may face, in addition to any potential criminal charges.
