MANKATO, Minn.—Minnesota State, Mankato became the first WCHA team in nearly two years to sweep a home series against Denver, winning 3-2 on Saturday night.

Andrew Sackrison, Joel Hanson and Jon Kalinski scored goals for the Mavericks (13-10-4, 6-9-4 in WCHA), who are making a charge in the WCHA thanks to a four-game winning streak.

For Sackrison, a freshman forward, it was his fourth point of the weekend.

Tyler Bozak and Kyle Ostrow scored goals for the fourth-ranked Pioneers (18-8-3, 12-6-0). Ostrow’s power-play goal made it 3-2 with 6:14 to play, but the Mavericks held on, as goalie Mike Zacharias made 18 saves.

Denver goalie Peter Mannino finished with 19 saves. The last time Denver was swept at an opponent’s rink was Feb. 17-18, 2006 at Minnesota.

The last time Mankato swept a series against the Pioneers was in 2000-01 at Denver.
