BOWLING GREEN, KY. — Western Kentucky (18-5, 10-1 Sun Belt) opened the second half Saturday with a 15-point run, holding the Pioneers (9-12, 5-5) scoreless for the first 5:32 of the half.
Western Kentucky led by as many as 29 points.
Courtney Lee scored 12 consecutive points for Western Kentucky during one stretch in the first half. Rob Lewis led the Pioneers with 19 points.
Sacramento State 74, Northern Colorado 70
SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — Vinnie McGhee Jr. had 17 points, six assists, three steals and a key basket as the Hornets (4-16, 2-7 Big Sky) ended a five-game losing streak.
Trailing the Hornets 60-52, the Bears (9-13, 3-7) battled back to tie the game 70-70 on a 3-pointer by Will Figures with 11.2 seconds left.
McGhee hit a bank shot off the glass to put the Hornets up 72-70 with 4.4 seconds remaining.
After the Bears’ Jefferson Mason was called for traveling with 2.3 seconds to go, Clark Woods was fouled and made two free throws to seal the win for the Hornets.
Nebraska-Kearney 88, Metro State 82
KEARNEY, NEB. Sophomore forward Drake Beranek scored a conference seasonhigh 41 points and added 15 rebounds in leading the Lopers (11-10, 9-4 RMAC) past Metro State (13-11, 6-7).
Marquise Carrington’s 28 points off the bench led Metro State. Terrell Burgess and Lawrence Billings added 14 points apiece for Metro.
