Firefighters discovered the body of a man inside a burning Chevrolet van on a residential street this morning, officials say.

Authorities have not yet been able to identify the man, said Sarah Huntley, Boulder police spokeswoman.

They have indications of who it might be but the Boulder County Coroner’s Office will have to confirm the man’s name and notify his family before his name will be released, Huntley said.

The body was found after firefighters were called to the 2700 block of Glenwood Drive on a report of a burning vehicle, which was fully engulfed when they arrived just after 5:30 a.m., Huntley said.

As the firefighters were attacking the fire, they discovered a man inside the vehicle. He was removed from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, she said.

Officials do not yet know whether the man died of injuries from the fire or if he was killed in some other way, according to Huntley.

The case is under investigation.
