Be still, my heart:
Cupid’s poised to be doing his thing on Thursday, and on the off chance he’s running out of romantic ideas:
• The Denver Center for the Performing Arts launches an online auction Valentine’s Day, offering three items sure to set hearts aflutter. For starters, there’s a seven- day trip in the Presidential Suite aboard GrandLuxe Rail Journeys’ exquisitely appointed 21-car train. The itinerary includes Albuquerque; the Grand Canyon; Santa Barbara, Calif.; San Francisco; the Napa Valley; and Seattle. If train travel doesn’t do it for you, bids also can be placed on an overnight stay, with dinner for two, at Joy Burns’ all-suite Burnsley Hotel or an antique Courthouse Steps quilt donated by the DCPA’s chief executive, Dan Ritchie. Bids are accepted through Feb. 23 at denver .
• Red cocktails and decadent desserts will be served at Thursday’s Bloody Heart Party at MCA Denver (the Museum of Contemporary Art, 1485 Delgany St.). Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and also include DJ music, a rooftop conversation pit called “the jewel box,” the entry to which will be designated by a pulsing heart and dagger. Tickets, $20 for members and $25 for guests, can be purchased at the door.
• Project Safeguard’s Valentine Fling, featuring entertainment by the Nacho Men, takes place Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center. Denise Plante of KOSI Radio and Channel 9’s morning show, “Colorado & Company,” is the emcee; activities also include a live auction, “fishbowl” raffle and hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $40 advance or $50 at the door. Call 303-741-4852.
