Colorado Attorney General John Suthers has created a hotline to field tips regarding the 1987 murder of Peggy Hettrick, a Fort Collins fashion-store manager.
Suthers, who was appointed to investigate Hettrick’s murder after Tim Masters was released from prison last month, is working with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to develop new leads in the case.
Today was the 21st anniversary of the day Hettrick’s body was found in a Fort Collins field, hours after she had left a local bar. She had been stabbed once in the back and portions of her genitalia had been removed.
Suspicion immediately turned to Masters, a teenager who was seen by his father staring at what was later determined to be Hettrick’s body. But years of work by his attorneys eventually led to an order releasing him from prison after none of his DNA was found on Hettrick or her clothing.
