Statement released by the Colorado Rockies pitcher Matt Herges Wednesday:
“Several years ago I made a poor decision rather than trusting in the abilities the Lord has blessed me with. With great insecurity I chose to cross the line and briefly use performance enhancing substances. I have no excuse for my actions.
“Words cannot describe how remorseful I am. Beginning with my wife, Jane, my children, family and friends, I would like to apologize to all those I have hurt including the fans of Major League Baseball. I have never used performance enhancing substances while wearing the Rockies uniform, but I want to apologize to the Rockies organization and their fans as well.
“I cannot adequately express the grace and forgiveness that I have received. My hope is that young athletes will not repeat my mistake, but will be secure enough to pursue their dreams without the use of drugs of any kind.”
