Pass the cigars

They’re having a house! Jill Warner and Erick Roorda, owners of Mod Livin at 5327 E. Colfax Ave. in Denver, recently bought a mountain property where they plan to construct a modern, factory-built, modular home. It will be assembled on site and will include a variety of recycled building materials. Better yet, the couple are taking their customers along for the ride during a series of workshops about modular- home construction dubbed the “PreFab Lab.” Upcoming installments include a look at planning and conceptualization with designer Kyndra Georgeson on Feb. 21; a discussion of green exterior materials with North Star design specialist Steve Bennett on Mar. 20; a review of interior materials on Apr. 17; advanced site design and assembly on May 22; furnishing the PreFab on June 19; and such final touches as landscaping on July 17. Forty-nine years young

The 49th annual Colorado Garden & Home Show, running Saturday through Feb. 26 at the Colorado Convention Center, is more than just a place to explore roughly 600 home-improvement products and services, nearly 60 workshops and $125,000 worth of flowers, trees and shrubs grown just to spark gardeners’ imaginations at this event. The show also is the place for local elementary schools to apply for $5,000 grants to implement “green” improvements. Co-sponsored by Bank of the West, these Green Grants are meant for projects including eco-friendly playgrounds, school gardens and recycling programs. Details:

Indoor bocce ball

A Colorado ad man invented BoHo Bocce for families who love indoor games and also appreciate good looks. “The game is a great conversation piece,” says Brad Droy, whose new business is called Outside In Games and carries this tagline: Where Life is All Fun & Games. BoHo Bocce balls are manufactured in Nepal by artisans Droy met and located himself. Shipping of the game, which costs $79 to $109, is free during February. or 303-667-1293.
