COLORADO SPRINGS — A mother accused of starting a fire in her home that killed her 1-year-old daughter and injured four other children was charged today with 19 crimes.
Maria Gardner Joseph, 25, was charged with murder, first-degree arson, child abuse and attempted murder in the Jan. 28 fire that killed Ashia Joseph, 16 months.
Three children — ages 9, 8, and 3 — remain in critical condition with severe burns, and a 5-year-old boy is in fair condition.
