George Washington, trailing by 11 points entering the fourth quarter, went on an 18-3 run and slipped past Montbello 65-61 on Saturday afternoon in Class 5A Denver Prep League boys basketball.
Tony Adams (21 points), Cedrick Ennis (16) and Ashaun Drumgo (11) helped the Patriots improve to 17-4 overall and 5-1 in the DPL. It was a key victory for GW, which has two games remaining as the big-school regular season ends Friday and the postseason bracket will be announced next Sunday. For Montbello (10-10, 4-2), Nate Nelson (22 points), Lee Hall (16) and Isiah Cooper (10) led the way.
Broomfield 76, Frederick 32.
The host Broomfield girls, with five players scoring in double figures, had no trouble against the Warriors.
Broomfield (19-1, 13-1 Northern West), the defending Colorado 4A champion, was paced by Mariah Metoyer (14 points), Ashley Snow (12), Anna Prins (11), Chandra Sewell (11) and Sophia Rhodes (10).
Alyssa Graziano (13 points) and Michelle Price (10) led Frederick (5-15, 2-12).
Montbello 75, George Washington 45.
Danielle Brown led all scorers with 22 points as the Montbello girls moved a step closer to the Denver title.
Jessica Brown (20 points) and Tameka Hunt (12) also helped Montbello (17-4, 6-0), which will play Thomas Jefferson on Tuesday, then will be the home team Thursday against East to decide the city title.
GW (9-11, 4-2) was led by Jeynelle Johnson (15 points).

Regionals were completed Saturday.
The Colorado High School Activities will release pairings for the state tournament today.
The tournament is Thursday through Saturday at the Pepsi Center.

The state championships for boys and girls are Thursday and Friday at Steamboat Springs.

Inductees: John Hancock, Mullen, 31 years coaching overall, the past 22 in track and field, has won 10 Colorado team titles; Glynn Higgs, Burlington, 28-year coach, the past 17 leading the football team (158-36 career mark); Gary Ramstetter, Alamosa, 32-year coach, the past 29 heading wrestling (seven Colorado team titles, 45 individual champions); Neal Rusher, Wray, 34-year coach, headed the football team for 28 years (two Colorado titles, 204 victories); and Larry Zaragoza, Alamosa, 35-year coach, the past 26 leading boys and girls track and field, and cross country (seven combined boys and girls titles in the two sports).
