GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Authorities say something dropped into a trash can ignited a fire that critically injured a Palisade man.

The fire broke out Sunday afternoon inside a mobile home.

Christian R. Lang was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction with second- and third-degree burns on his face and hands.

He’s listed in critical condition.

Palisade Fire Chief Richard Rupp says it’s not clear if Lang was smoking, or what may have sparked the blaze.

Damage is estimated at $10,000.

Rupp says Lang is expected to recover.
