CASTLE ROCK — Castle Rock police say they will recommend criminal charges be filed after some high school students took a prescription painkiller and had to be hospitalized.

Police Chief Tony Lane says one student accused of bringing the drug to school and giving it to others should face felony charges of distributing a controlled substance.

He says students who ingested the drug could be charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Lane says he is recommending charges against 11 students total.

Douglas County Schools spokeswoman Whei Wong says the drug was oxycodone. The students have been expelled.
