Freestyle skier Emiko Torito of Denver finished third at the World Cup moguls contest held at the 2009 FIS Freestyle World Championship in Inawashiro, Japan, on Saturday. Japan’s Aiko Uemura won the women’s event with a score of 22.59 points to Torito’s 21.43. Olympian Michelle Roark of Denver finished 10th.

The men’s race was won by World Cup leader Dale Begg-Smith of Australia. Dave Babic of Washington, Vt., finished third to lead the American men.

• Reigning two-time U.S. champion and recent Aspen transplant Jen Hudak shrugged off light snow to collect her second podium of the season Friday with a second-place finish at the World Cup ski halfpipe competition in Inawashiro, Japan. World Cup leader Sarah Burke of Canada posted the top score.

Walter Wood of Evergreen had the top U.S. men’s result, finishing eighth in the event won by Matthew Hayward of Canada.

• Ryan St. Onge of Winter Park shook off a nasty headwind to put down a perfect landing on his final jump Sunday and earn his first World Cup aerial podium in 14 months. St. Onge was third on the 2009 FIS Freestyle World Championships venue in Japan.

“He got his mental game back,” coach Matt Christensen said.

Anton Kushnir of Belarus won the men’s event with 249.31 points, with Steve Omischl of Canada second at 242.58.
