Golden Eagle Ranch has joined Ducks Unlimited in forming a conservation easement adding 967 acres of South Platte River bottomland to a long reach on which no development will occur. This parcel, coupled with 1,100 acres the ranch donated to DU in 2003, forms a 6-mile natural zone just west of the Tamarack State Wildlife area near the town of Crook.
With the Tamarack parcel, this forms an unbroken, 20-mile river reach managed for waterfowl, deer and upland game. The private hunting club also has restored more than 100 acres of seasonal wetlands and plans an additional 120-acre project in partnership with other conservation groups.
Tip nags poacher.
An anonymous tip helped Colorado Division of Wildlife officers solve a case involving the illegal shooting of a deer in the Rockrimmon neighborhood in Colorado Springs. A juvenile confessed to shooting the deer with a bow and arrow and paid a fine of $2,877.
