LOUISVILLE, Colo.—ConocoPhillips is opening a technology research center on acreage north of Denver in Louisville.

ConocoPhillips spokesman Bill Tanner confirmed Wednesday the company bought the 432-acre site along U.S. 36 from Sun Microsystems. He declines to provide a purchase price.

Sun Microsystems purchased the land when it bought Storage Technology Corporation for $4 billion in 2005.

Tanner says the site will be used for research and development of alternative fuels including bioenergy.

Representatives of the Houston-based company will be inspecting the site in upcoming months with plans to open the campus in 2012. No decisions have been made on how many jobs will be based there.
