The U.S. Forest Service will do a “much better job” of analyzing the environmental impacts of a proposed luxury- home development near Wolf Creek Ski Area after settling a lawsuit contending malfeasance in the first study, an official said Wednesday.
The agency will perform the environmental studies in- house, which will take 18 months, and not use an outside contractor paid for by the developers.
The study also will include county and state governments as part of the “full public participation,” said Rio Grande National Forest Supervisor Dan Dallas.
The agency and the proponents of the Village at Wolf Creek — Texas sports magnate B.J. “Red” McCombs and his partner, Bob Honts — agreed this week to conduct a new environmental review as part of a settlement of a 2006 federal lawsuit by Colorado Wild and the San Luis Valley Ecosystem Council.
