LAKEWOOD — Trailing by 21 points early in the game and by 13 entering the final quarter, Green Mountain’s boys rallied for a championship date.

The Rams outlasted Bear Creek 67-64 on Wednesday night behind a 27-11 scoring edge in the fourth quarter.

As a result, Green Mountain (15-6, 8-1 league) at Arvada West (9-0 league) on Friday night will be for the Class 5A Jefferson County championship.

Brian Hunt’s 18 points paced the Rams. Peter Nordstrom (13 points), Keigan Peterson (12) and Nick Sleeman (11) added balance.


Grandview 69, Boulder 66

AURORA — Chalk one up for the Wolves, who scored one of the 5A Centennial’s major upsets.

Grandview, behind 16 points by Jake Campbell, knocked off fourth-ranked Boulder. The Wolves, who moved to 11-11 and 5-8, also received 11 points from Andrew Abrahamson and 10 each from James Albright and Matt Parker.

Boulder (18-4, 9-4) was led by David Bremner’s game- high 26 points.


Cherry Creek 54, Smoky Hill 50, OT

GREENWOOD VILLAGE — Up and down during the stretch run, the Bruins gutted out one against the Buffaloes.

Behind 23 points by Ryan Link and 16 by Mark Elliot, Cherry Creek (15-7, 9-4) held off its district rival. The Buffs (12-10, 5-7) were led by Leon Whittington’s 14 points.


Eaglecrest 66, Mullen 47

CENTENNIAL — With Boulder being knocked off, the Raptors took care of business at home against the Mustangs as well as control of the Centennial.

Arden Dennis (21 points) and Gage Wooten propelled Eaglecrest (18-4, 10-3) to at least a tie for the league championship.

The Raptors can clinch it outright on Friday at Cherry Creek, a game back in the league standings.

Terrance Dent paced Mullen (15-7, 7-6) with 14 points and David Burns added 12.


Overland girls 59, Fairview 54, OT

BOULDER — Despite shooting 15-of-32 at the free-throw line, the Trailblazers (14-7, 8-5) road Stormye Everett’s game-high 32 points to down the Knights (11-11, 6-7) in the Centennial.


Seeding announcement

The ESPN Zone (1187 16th St.) will be the site for Sunday’s announcement of the 48-team brackets for 5A-4A boys and girls basketball. The public is invited and the event will begin at 11 a.m.
