DU’s big rally for naught

After trailing by 24 points in the first half and 20 in the second, the University of Denver women’s basketball team cut Middle Tennessee’s lead to two points with 11 seconds remaining.

But the Blue Raiders’ Amber Holt made two free throws with six seconds left to give MTU (17-10, 12-4 Sun Belt) an 81-77 win Thursday night at Magness Arena.

Senior Sara Benham led DU (10-16, 5-10) with 18 points and recorded her 1,000th point as a Pioneer.

Portland State 82, N. Colorado 60

The Vikings (19-7, 9-4 Big Sky) shot 64 percent in the first half on the way to building a 14-point lead and remaining unbeaten at home. Jamie Schroeder led the Bears (11-13, 5-6) with 19 points.
