GOLDEN — A 20-year-old man admitted today that he started a fire in June that caused $6.5 million in damage to Weber Elementary School in Arvada.
Tyler John Newhart pleaded guilty to arson and burglary, both felonies. He will be sentenced April 17.
The fire caused extensive smoke, fire and water damage to the core of the building, including the library, computer room and classrooms, school district officials said.
Weber students attended three other nearby schools during reconstruction, which was completed in mid-October.
