DENVER—Roosevelt juniors Dan Frank and Nathan Heuer won individual titles Saturday night to help Roosevelt win its first team championship since 2003 and third in school history.
The Roughriders, who scored 186 1/2 points in the three-day, 73rd annual Colorado state high school wrestling tournament at the Pepsi Center, also won the team crown in 1999.
Frank, the 125-pound champion last year, earned a 9-0 major decision over Adam Garcia of Monte Vista in the 130-pound weight classification.
Heuer pinned Platte Valley’s Kyle Symonds in 4:51 at 171.
Centauri took second place with 125 1/2 points, Florence finished third with 116 1/2 and Gunnison and La Junta tied with 98 to round out the top five.
Four other returning champions joined Frank as back-to-back winners, including Eathan Martinez of St. Mary’s (125 pounds), Mitchell Polkowske of Centauri (145), David Clark of Platte Valley (189) and Austin Kennison of Highland (285).
Martinez, the 119-pound champ in 2007, ended his high school career with a perfect 36-0 record.
Polkowske, a senior who won at 135 pounds last year, finished the season 42-0 and 90-0 the last two years.
Florence sophomore Matt Addington also ended with a perfect record (36-0) with his 7-1 decision over Jeff Kielian of Roosevelt at 140 pounds.
