Generally speaking I think Woody Paige is a pompous, self-aggrandizing blowhard. However, his column in the Feb. 17 Sunday Denver Post, “Love of Baseball Survives All This,” brought tears to my eyes. As I read it, a flood of my own baseball memories rushed out from deep within, from going to D.C. Stadium (before it was renamed RFK) with my dad to watch the (hapless) Washington Senators, to singing the national anthem at the first World Series game held in Colorado. Paige’s article was splendidly evocative of how baseball has touched every sense and so many emotions over the years. Anyone who can write like that can’t be all bad. Well done, Woody.

Kudos to Woody, Irv

Thanks to Woody Paige and Irv Moss for their terrific articles about Bob Howsam. Having been a family friend since Robert Jr. (a.k.a. Bobby) and I played Young America League football and baseball, I have been privileged to witness Bob’s business success, as well as the success he and his wife Janet enjoyed in creating their wonderful family. Your articles chronicle the life of an American legend who truly lived the American dream. I hope Colorado will find a way to memorialize this man so future generations can know of his achievements.
