Old Western hospitality

Rochester Hotel, 721 E. Second Ave., Durango; 970-385-1920, rochester

Star attraction

Once down at the heels, this Durango institution was lovingly restored in 1993 by owners who framed posters advertising Western movies from the 1940s to 1991’s “City Slickers.” The adjacent rooms reflect each poster’s theme — “How the West Was Won,” “Ticket to Tomahawk,” “Across the Wide Missouri.” Look for famous faces, including Karl Malden, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Gregory Peck and Clark Gable.

The reception is free, but reserve a spot at 303-892-3838 or jeanette.albert@state . Can’t make the party? The exhibit is open weekdays 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
