Marc Steron, a fixture as reliable as a T-bone as general manager of Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse for the past 10 1/2 years, is leaving the popular establishment at the end of March. He says he plans to take a year off to reacquaint himself with his family, to recharge, to relaxand then he’ll be back with his own restaurant.
“There are a few things I am looking at,” he says. “Nothing is signed or put together at this point.”
Steron says he would open a place near the Denver Tech Center — all about steak and seafood with a bar element.
“I have backers, and I’m good to go,” Steron says.
Rumors have it backers include Broncos coach Mike Shanahan and Re/Max founder Dave Liniger, both regulars at Del’s.
Gulp.
A big crowd turned out Saturday to see Matt Venzke of Yorktown, Va., crowned Beerdrinker of the Year 2008 at the Wynkoop Brewing Co.
Venzke won beer for life at the brewpub by answering such questions as what kind of beer would he be if he were a beer — and what kind of glass he would be served in (lager, tall boy.) When he dies, he wants to be cremated and mixed in a craft beer his friends would all drink.

Next month’s Sunset magazine gives a four-page shout out to The Kitchen in Boulder, declaring it “The West’s Greenest Restaurant.”
Of course, this includes spending time on the farms near Boulder. “There’s more excitement to me in having relationships (with farmers),” says chef/partner Hugo Matheson. “Because it’s real, not just a trend.”
He says he doesn’t like the fuss about The Kitchen’s greenness. It just sort of happens in how he and restaurant partner Kimbal Musk get it done.
Here are the nine daily grinds that keep The Kitchen green: “Furnishes its space with largely recycled or salvaged fixtures and materials. Draws its electricity entirely from Colorado wind farms. Offers cloth towels in the bathroom. Depends mainly on local food suppliers. Prepares staff meals at the end of their shift to use up extra food, including wine. Staff uses reusable mugs. Hands out biodegradable take-out containers. Supplies a neighbor with its cooking oil for biodiesel. Recycles or composts nearly 100 percent of its waste.”
Boulder writer Eliza Bosley reports; Denver snapshooter Laurie Smith gets the images.
