Getting your player ready...

With eco-friendly ski products becoming more prevalent, it’s no surprise the greening of the industry goes to the base of your boards. Summit County-based Purl Wax has introduced a new high-performance All Natural Wax line, made from ingredients exclusively obtained from natural and renewable resources, and tested to live up to its tagline: Faster than you.

After two years of searching for ways to concoct a nontoxic, 100 percent biodegradable ski and snowboard wax, Purl Wax founder Scott Sparks discovered a way to buck the trend toward waxes made with petroleum-based perfluorocarbons (PFC), those potent greenhouse gases considered thousands of times more harmful than CO2.

Purl’s “bio-ester,” vegetable-based wax claims to be as fast and durable as conventional high-performance waxes, with a pro team including Seth Morrison, Sage Cattabriga- Alosa, Torstein Horgmo and Clair Bidez, among others, to back it.

Best of all, it won’t break down and create that nasty, known carcinogen, perfluorooctanoic acid, like PFC-based waxes. Purl takes its earth-friendly stance a step further through reusable packaging and wind energy to power its factory in Dillon.

Get it: The three types of All Natural Wax (all-temp, spring or winter) can be found online at and at specialty ski and snowboard shops around the region (MSRP: $10)
