A man who sped down a street Friday in a stolen car was killed when he lost control, struck a tree and then slammed into a home, authorities say.

The name of the man, who was killed in the 8:15 p.m. crash, has not been released pending notification of family, said Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman.

The man had stolen the car about three days ago, he said.

He was driving at a high rate of speed near 17th Avenue and Ulster Street when the accident happened, Jackson said.

The home was damaged in the accident, he said.
