Da crane, da crane!
Monte Vista Crane Festival, Friday through March 9; or 719-852-3552
Spring break
Thousands of greater sand- hill cranes and some of their lesser cousins have begun their annual stopover in the San Luis Valley on the way to nesting grounds up north. Monte Vista celebrates their arrival with tours, lectures and workshops. Most are free, but you need to sign up by Tuesday at 4 p.m. No reservations needed for the craft fair, all weekend at the Ski-Hi Building.
Western Exposures
“Myron Wood: Photographs of the West,” 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, Byers-Evans House Museum, 1310 Bannock St., Denver
Picture this
Celebrated photographer Myron Wood, protege and friend of Edward Westin, used an 8×10-inch view camera to produce gorgeously sharp shots of the landscape, architecture and people of southwestern Colorado and northern New Mexico, notably the secretive Penitente Brotherhood. Lighter subjects include a 1973 photo of Donald F. Brandon nursing a beer alongside his infant son, Patrick.
Country Time
Country Music Jamboree, 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Cedaredge Community Center, 140 N.W. Second St., Cedaredge; 970-856-3536
Music under the Mesa
Every month, on the second Saturday, is open-mike night for local bluegrass, country and gospel musicians. A donation at the door earns entry to a 9-year-old gathering of musicians that’s frequently rewarding and sometimes pleasantly anachronistic.
