BOULDER, Colo.—A survivor of the 1972 South American plane crash depicted in the movie “Alive” will participate in a backcountry trip in Colorado this summer.

Boulder-based Alpine Expeditions says Eduardo Strauch will join an August trip to a mountain hut in the Vail area and talk about his experiences.

Strauch was one of 16 people who survived the crash in the Andes and spent 72 days in high mountain snow before they were rescued. Survivors said they ate flesh from some of the victims to stay alive.

Ricardo Pena of Alpine Expeditions says the outing will start with a presentation by Strauch in Boulder before the group sets out for the mountains.
