University of Colorado basketball player Brittany Spears appears well on her way to being the Big 12 women’s freshman of the year. Spears claimed her third Big 12 rookie of the week award Monday after averaging a double-double for the Buffaloes last week.
Spears averaged 15 points and 12.5 rebounds in two road games, including a career-high 14 rebounds against Baylor. The 6-foot-1 forward from Pasadena, Calif., leads Big 12 freshmen in scoring (14 points per game), rebounding (7.7), blocked shots (1.5) and free- throw percentage (.879) and ranks second in steals (1.8).
Snyder returning to Olympics.
Rebecca Snyder of Grand Junction earned a spot on her fourth consecutive Olympic team Monday, winning the air pistol competition at the U.S. shooting trials. Snyder was one of five Americans to qualify at the trials.
MWC rewards AFA pitcher.
Air Force freshman left-hander Brad Pingel was named Mountain West Conference pitcher of the week Monday. Pingel was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in 5 2/3 innings last week.
