A 21-year-old man thought to be the driver in a hit-and-run accident in Boulder last month turned himself in today.

The suspect, Alexander Rek, surrendered after a judge signed a warrant for his arrest.

The accident happened at about 5:55 p.m. Feb. 23 in the 800 block of College Avenue and injured a 15-year-old boy.

Witnesses told police the victim was walking with friends when a black Volvo swerved toward the group. Some witnesses said the driver appeared to accelerate before hitting the teen.

The driver took off.

The teen was treated for a broken bone and bruises and has since been released, Sarah Huntley, a police spokeswoman, said in a news release.

The next day, police got a tip about where to find the Volvo.

Rek, a student at the University of Colorado, was booked into the Boulder County Jail today on suspicion of vehicular assault, hit-and-run and two counts of felony menacing. Bail was set at $10,000.

Anyone with additional information about the crime is asked to call Boulder police at 303-441-3333.
