Alpine touring skiers are likely to notice something “different” about the new SCARPA Hurricane boots (MSRP: $699) as soon as they walk away from the car. That’s because these resort-ready AT boots are built with downhill performance in mind.

Offering the stiffness of an alpine boot — a fixed (but adjustable) forward lean and four micro-adjustable buckles — the Hurricane could qualify as the ultimate Colorado sidecountry ski boot. You’re unlikely to miss your bulky alpine boots much while riding the resort, even less when you head out of the gate.

The dual-density Pebax shells and heat- moldable Intuition liners weigh in a couple of pounds lighter than standard polyurethane ski boots, and the hiker-friendly Vibram soles are compatible with downhill and step-in touring bindings. Swap out to the lugged soles (included) for firmer footing on more exposed tours.

The Hurricane’s greatest strength, though, lies in the ribbed outer cuff capable of driving your biggest skis through the deep snow you walked all that way to find.

As the stiffest boot in SCARPA’s expanding freeride line, these boots emphasize the “alpine” in alpine touring.
