Aunt Jemima pancake and waffle-mix products are being recalled from 16 states, including Colorado.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said this morning that the products being recalled are a “small quantity” of Aunt Jemima Pancake & Waffle Mix — Original, Original Complete and Buttermilk Complete.
The agency said that the products may be potentially contaminated with salmonella.
No other Aunt Jemima, frozen Aunt Jemima or other products made by the Quaker Oats Co. are affected.
The FDA said that of the small quantity that has been shipped, the vast majority probably has not been placed on store shelves.
The Aunt Jemima products were shipped to Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Florida, Minnesota and Alabama.
The products — sold in 2 pound and 5 pound boxes with “Best Before” dates of FEB 08 09 H through FEB 16 09 H stamped on the top — contain the following codes:
Salmonella is a food-borne illness that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems, said the FDA.
Healthy persons infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The FDA said that if consumers have any of these products, they should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Consumers with questions may contact Quaker Oats by calling a toll-free hotline — 1-800-407-2247 — or by logging onto .
Quaker said it is in the process of recovering the products involved. The company said it knows specifically to which customer warehouses the products were shipped and that about 98 percent of the products are within Quaker’s control.
