Cleaning products are rarely cute and effective at the same time.

But the Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber manages to look great and work well.

Pegged by makers as “the elbow liberator,” this new tool powers through soap scum in the tub and shower without stressing out tender joints.

But its best selling point could be how easy it is to throw away.

Germophobes complain about yucky sponges and the way they can breed bacteria. They should appreciate the Action Scrubber’s disposable cleaning pads.

The Scrubbing Bubbles starter kit includes a detachable handle, one reusable storage tub and four disposable pads. Bathroom cleaning can be backbreaking work, but this product’s bright green, easy-grip foam handle is so eye-catching that cleaning is almost fun.

Here’s how it works: Press the handle down hard on the printed blue side of the cleaning pad until the two surfaces adhere. This part can be tricky at first, as the pad may not want to stick. But it does take hold once it’s wet.

Cleaning foam bubbles to the pad’s surface. No additional cleaning solution is needed. The pad may need to be rewet to keep the suds going.

The pad glides smoothly, cleaning without a harsh smell and without leaving behind a gritty residue.

This product doesn’t do much for cleaning the grout around shower tiles, but it does cut through grime. A quick rinse of the surface and the shower and tub are bright and shining.

Simply toss the used pad in the trash, then store the foam handle in the top of the storage tub for handy, convenient use after each bath or shower.

The Scrubbing Bubbles Action Scrubber starter kit sells for about $5 at Target, Wal-Mart and other major chains.
