A 20-year-old man died last night in a car crash on I-25 north of Denver.
Chase Geer, of Federal Heights, was not wearing a seat belt when the 2000 Chevrolet Blazer he was driving collided with a pick-up truck and both vehicles rolled, the Colorado State Patrol said in a press release.
The two vehicle roll-over happened at about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near Erie, the state patrol said.
The state patrol said Geer was driving southbound when he went to pass a 2001 Ford Ranger; the two vehicles collided. Both vehicles ran off the left side of the road and rolled.
Debris from both vehicles flew into the northbound lanes of the highway and some debris smashed the windshield of a 1997 Freightliner semi-truck.
A passenger in Greer’s SUV, Drew Berwick, 21, of Laramie, Wyo., was taken to the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette with “moderate” injuries, the state patrol said.
The driver of the Ranger pickup, Brad Niedzwiadek, 30 of Littleton, and the driver of the semi, Carl Getz, 35, of Texas, were not injured.
All three survivors of the collision were wearing their seatbelts, the state patrol reports.
The highway was dry at the time of the crash and investigators suspect alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision.
An investigation is ongoing, the state patrol said.
