DENVER—A House committee has approved a proposal to allow liquor stores to open on Sundays.

The House Finance Committee voted 9-1 Wednesday to send the bill to the appropriations committee for a vote.

The Senate has already passed the bill.

Liquor store owners fought previous attempts to change the state’s blue laws, saying they would rather stay closed on Sundays.

This year, many of them switched positions in hopes of blocking another proposal that would allow supermarkets to compete with them by selling full-strength beer and wine.

A Senate committee killed the supermarket bill last month.
