A burglary suspect is also wanted in connection with the murder of a Weld County man, authorities say.
James Samuel “Sam” England, 37, is being sought in the shooting death of William “Billy” Trimbach, whose body was found in Morgan County on Valentine’s Day 1993. Eng land is considered a person of interest in the homicide, said Morgan County Sheriff Jim Crone.
He is also wanted on felony and misdemeanor warrants from Morgan and Alamosa counties, Crone said.
England is a suspect in a burglary of a residence in Morgan County on Tuesday where two shotguns were stolen, he said.
England was also involved in a hit-and-run accident in the metro area Wednesday afternoon, but he was able to get away after giving officers a false name. He was last seen on foot in the area of St. Anthony North Hospital, Crone said.
England has numerous arrests for assault, burglary, auto theft and weapons offenses and has served prison sentences in Colorado for drug dealing and violating parole, he said.
England has said that he will not be taken alive, Crone said.
Trimbach’s body was found Feb. 14, 1993, on the north side of the Interstate 76 frontage road west of Wiggins.
He had been shot to death, and his body was taken by car to the side of the highway and dumped.
Crone said Trimbach’s wife, Cindy, who has since died, was a suspect from the beginning. Trimbach was killed on the couple’s one-year wedding anniversary.
One theory is that Cindy Trimbach hired two men to kill her husband to cash in on a large life-insurance policy, Crone said.
Over the years, informants have come forward, saying that a Fort Morgan drug dealer has boasted about killing Billy Trimbach with an accomplice, Crone said.
