The University of Denver ski team jumped from third place into the lead Thursday on the second day of the NCAA championships in Bozeman, Mont.
DU’s John Buchar won the individual giant slalom and helped push Denver (316.5 points) ahead of first-day leader Colorado (282), which dropped to third place behind Utah (288). CU senior Lucie Zikova won her first national giant slalom title to help keep the Buffs in the hunt.
The Pioneers led six of the past eight championships at the midway point and went on to win three times. Today’s classical cross country races are key for the Pioneers and Buffs, because the past 13 champions have led after the third day.
14ers sign pair.
The Colorado 14ers expanded their NBA D-League roster to 10 players with the signings of 6-foot-10 rookie forward Paul Butorac and 6-4 guard Milone Clark. The two additions help a 14ers roster that has been depleted lately with the departure of big man Elton Brown and the loss of Billy Thomas and Kaniel Dickens, who both joined the Cleveland Cavaliers’ roster Feb. 22.
