When Jordan Leopold’s name was on the Avalanche’s scratch list for Thursday’s game with Anaheim, the first question was: What was his latest injury? But Leopold was not hurt; the Avalanche defense is just too deep and playing so well that somebody is going to have to sit right now.

Avs coach Joel Quenneville sat Leopold, who had been playing well, and played Jeff Finger, who returned after missing six games with a hand injury. Quenneville said he’ll continue to be faced with a tough decision as long as the Avs have eight healthy defensemen.

“We welcome tough decisions,” Quenneville said. “We’ll see as we go along. I thought (Finger) gave us even more of a physical presence.”
