WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — San Francisco Bay Area newspapers owned by Denver-based Media News Group, which owns The Denver Post, will cut staff by 10 percent but avoid layoffs because enough workers took buyout offers.
Also, the San Jose Mercury News planned to notify workers on its business side Thursday night whether they’re being laid off and expects to announce 17 newsroom layoffs today, said Suzanne Arnaud, administrative director of the San Jose Newspaper Guild.
