Colorado Springs police got a scare Sunday with the report of a weapon at a local church.

A member of Holy Apostles Church arrived for services with a sword in a sheath slung around his neck.

The man did not remove the sword or threaten anyone with it, according to police.

“When an usher asked him to take the sword out of the church, the suspect left without any confrontation,” according to a police report.

The 38-year-old man is mentally challenged and attends the church from time to time, according to police. When police went to his home later, he said he wanted to get the sword blessed.

Police did not identify the man, and no charges were filed.
