DURANGO, Colo.—A district attorney charged with driving under the influence and careless driving said he will remain in office through January but he will not seek re-election in November.
Craig Westberg has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He faces trial in May.
Westberg said he took an Ambien sleeping pill and left home to run an errand when his vision suddenly became blurred.
Since 1977 Westberg has been a prosecutor in the 6th Judicial District that covers Archuleta, La Plata, and San Juan counties in southwestern Colorado.
The Food and Drug Administration last year ordered a change to Ambien’s labeling to note sleep-driving as a rare, but possible side effect.
