LAKEWOOD — The first of what could be several weeks of prescribed burns on Green Mountain near C-470 and Interstate 70 is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

West Metro Fire Rescue firefighters and Bear Creek Lake Park rangers plan to burn nearly 200 acres if the weather cooperates.

The burn is dependent on weather conditions. West Metro spokeswoman Cindy Matthews said smoke may be visible on C-470 near the West Alameda overpass and I-70 interchange. Matthews said the burn is to rejuvenate native grasses, remove thatch and noxious weeds, reduce wildland fire potential, reduce pesticide use and provide firefighter training.
